Frequently Asked Questions

What would a typical day be like for my child?
A typical day at Cambridge Academy depends on the age of the child. When you tour the Center, you will notice the daily schedules posted on the parent board located outside of each room. The daily schedule that pertains to the age of your child will provide you with information regarding your child's daily routine. Generally, the day will include: morning welcome; snack; learning activities; outside play; lunch; rest time; afternoon snack; and afternoon activities that could include supplemental enrichment activities such as Dance, Ballet, Gymnastics, Drama, Karate, and Music. We assure you that your child will experience a balance among learning activities, rest and play.

Who will be at the school every day?
There will be a number of people consistently on site to meet the needs of you and your child. One of the unique features is that Cambridge Academy is individually owned and operated. Therefore, the owner will be on site to assist both the staff and your family. The management team will be on site daily to communicate with parents, ensure that the environment meets all state and Cambridge Academy requirements, supervise children during activities, including meal time, and provide a safe, nurturing environment for your child. The entire staff is trained to continuously strive for the highest possible standards.

What is the staff to children ratio?
The ratio of staff to children is age specific and is outlined below. Keep in mind that Cambridge Academy also utilizes assistant teachers and teachers aids in the classroom to help the "lead" teacher with certain activities which further lowers this ratio at many times during the day.
Infants - 1 to 4
Toddlers - 1 to 6
Two Year Old - 1 to 7
Three Year Old - 1 to 9
Four Year Old - 1 to 13
Five Year Old - 1 to 15

What type of background do the teachers have?
Cambridge Academy has a stringent policy on hiring our staff members. Work related and personal references are checked and a full criminal background check is performed. Further, grade transcripts and course descriptions are obtained from the educational institution(s) from which the applicant received his/her early childhood teaching credentials. Cambridge Academy requires all of its employees to complete continuing education courses in the field of early childhood education. Moreover, Cambridge Academy seeks out people who are passionate about making a positive impact on the lives of young people. Lead teachers are required to have a 4 year college degree and most have their major in Early Childhood Education. Assistant Teachers are required to have their CDA and previous related working experience.

What are Cambridge Academy's safety measures?
The main focus of Cambridge Academy is to provide a safe and nurturing environment for young children. Our passion for child safety is seen in the basic design of our building, which includes an open floor plan with numerous windows for viewing, Closed Circuit TV for administration monitoring, plenty of secure exits and a protective fencing around custom designed playground areas. Our state-of-the-art building also includes a fire alarm system and a complete security alarm system. An annual inspection by the fire marshal is performed to ensure that the sprinkler system, fire alarms and fire extinguishers are all functioning properly. Cambridge Academy also performs a monthly fire drill. In order to gain entry into the building, parents are provided with a unique pin number that must be used to open the front door. Only parents having the code or card will have access to the Center. Members of the Center's staff accompany all other guests while they are in the building. Above all, Cambridge Academy hires childcare professionals who are conscientious and place the safety of the children first.

What kind of curriculum do you use?
Our Lower School's age-appropriate curriculum is an educationally sound and proven program. The curriculum is based on the philosophy that children learn best through hands-on activities that address the needs of the whole child. Each learning program reflects the belief that children need a balance of child-initiated and teacher-facilitated activities each day. This approach is grounded in sound child development theory and appropriate practices. Themes are used to introduce information and learning takes place as a child explores and manipulates real objects and events.

The Upper School's curriculum is carefully designed by our degreed teachers to inspire academic excellence, nurture curiosity, promote creativity and spark their imagination. All skills proven to best prepare your child for Kindergarten.
